Renfrew

No sign of a Renfrew thread.

Took the ferry from Yoker and then went through the town and then headed out to Inchinnan Bridge and the end of the airport runway, returning via the walkway alongside the Blackcart

Fulbar Lane. Could be a remainder of the Blythswood Estate.

Former Bank of Scotland on Haist Street.

Ferry Road. I don't know anything about these two buildings but they must have a story to tell.

The new Renfrew ferry in action.

Nice sign that amazingly is still there.

Neil Buildings on Ferry Road. Had a few decent filled rolls from this takeaway.

Looking south to Craigielea Road on the route of the former Paisley & Renfrew Railway.

The building on the left has some sort of pump in it... and as wild guess on the other one is a former bothy of some kind for the buses that terminated at the ferry

The Bascule Bridge is scheduled to be raised today as part of Doors Open Day. The times are 11, 1 & 3 o'clock. First time since 2008 I think.

I grew up in Rannoch Drive right next to where this photo was taken. The actual railiway sleepers and verge stones were still there up until the early 80s as me and my brother used to play virtually where you have taken your picture. The stones and sleepers were removed and pathed in the late 80s/early 90s i am sure.

Re: Glasgow Airport

Takes you back to the days when you could find the front door to the airport without getting lost.

The 30's style offices of Balfour Kilpatrick are being demolished.

Looks like they'll be clearing what was the Deanpark industrial estate.

Your photo of the stone pillar at Fulbar lane is the top section of the bell tower of the old Blythswood Primary School which once stood on the area behind it. I went there back in the 1940s.

Lived in Hawick Street, Yoker 1982-94, so got to travel on both the original chain-driven Renfew ferry and the one that replaced it. Thought way new one operated was curious - it reversed into the middle of the river effecting an 180 degree tun, then drove ramp-first into both jetties. Last I saw it, the original one was moored on South bank of the Clyde just down river of Central Railway Bridge. Think it was to be a floating restaurant?

Braehead Power station was still there but mothballed, then demolished before I left, and Braehead Shopping Centre under construction.

The routes of the former railways were identifiable from Russell's Deanside, the line was still there to Braehead, but oou. The embankment and bridges were interrupted / down in places.

North of Babcox ( Babcox Power at that time, if memory serves) lay a vast ex-railway hinterland, derelict, curious hard standing in places, all lines lifted, although Babcox was still rail connected, I don't think we'd any traffic from them by that time. The line is long closed but prior to the Glasgow Airport Passenger Link which was planned to go another route, a freight link was proposed here, off Deanside & Braehead line if I remember right, crossing the Cart by new bridge.
