Scanning negatives

Ive got negatives i would like to scan but dont know how to lol
ive got a benq scanner scanner but cant get it to scan negatives properly it just comes out as a black blob
do i need a special adaptor to put the the negatives through so they scan ok or maybe the highest resolution on the scanner isnt high enough?
can anyone give me any advice?

To scan negs you need to be able to shine a light through it - a standard flatbed scanner won't do.

There are 3 options

1. A dedicated film scanner

2. A flatbed with a trapsparency scanner

3. A DSLR with and a negative/slide duplicator

1. Film scanners come in various guises - from cheap and cheerful models costing in the region of 30 to more fully featured models costing several hundred pounds.

2. A number of flatbed scanners either come equipped with a transparency or have one available as an option extra accessory

3. Slide duplicators have been around for quite some time, having been popular before the advent of scanners. They aren't the easiest things to find these days but fortunately you can get round this by making your own. http://www.diyphotography.net/sca...film-for-the-cost-of-a-happy-meal

scanning negatives

my local library has computers with free internet access and also has a scanner which can scan negatives so may use that in the meantime
dont know if it will scan negatives of film used in a box brownie as these have a lot of old family photos on them which i would like to scan and burn onto disc from the original negative rather than the actual photo itself as most of them have been glued into a photo album
