From Friday 26th to Monday 29th September 2008.

We would like as many members of Urban Glasgow to take part in this project.
Whats involved ?
Take as many photographs as you like over the period of the long weekend
As long as they are Glasgow related. Ideas?

Home life
Work  life
Sport and Recreation
Transport and Travel
Street life
Building and Construction
The list is endless as long as it is Related to Glasgow

What to do next ?

This is the Tricky bit.Print off as many as you like (on photograph paper)
label the back of the photograph, Date. Name. Address. And details of photograph.
Send it To
Clr Alex Glass
City Chambers
Glasgow.

As long as you Put your name and address on the back you will have full copyright of the photo.
The plan is then to put into storage until sep 2028,and then present to the Mitchell library.

I hope as many of you will get involved in this little piece of Urban Glasgow social history.

Good luck and Thanks.
LowLight

This is a great idea. I can't wait to get involved.

Next week is gonna be busy.
Stuball

I have a great idea for this... just need a quick bit of research to see if I can pull it off
Fjord

Great idea count me in
Alex Glass

Can't wait to hear your plan Stu

The more photos you submit the better. Could I also suggest that you also include a digital copy or at least a digital copy of you can't print them out and I will arrange to have them printed.

If you are arranging printing Alex then I can see no reason for anyone not to get involved ... Unless they are far removed from the city that is.

It sounds like a fantastic idea wonder how many photographs will involve members taking photographs
Alex Glass

As it isn't a competition hopefully every regular poster will contribute to this great project.
Stuball

My idea is sunk already.... Rangers are playing away :(
poodiecat

Will Rothesay count
Chief Inspector

I'm sure you will be in Glasgow at some time and leaving Glasgow Central to go 'Doon the water'is an ideal way to show Glasgow transport
Record your weekend,a photograph diary if you like.Think what would be of intrest to someone who does not know you in 20, 40, 60, years time.
This is our chance to record Glasgow History and be part of Glasgow history.
poodiecat

Yay this is sooooo coool! I am dead chuffed I have the opportunity to be part of this!
You guys rock, thank you!

Whether you put your name or it or not, you own the copyright in the image.

Thanks Ronnie Just makes things a bit more easy 20 years down the line
For payments for the book..... Cough

This sounds excellent ....I' m not gonna be able to get time to do it..I have a lot to do that weekend...I find it hard to take pics to order too..i really need to feel like it..you know what its like...but good luck to the rest of you
james73

What size do the pics need to be? Also, I can't print out decent quality pics with my
printer cos a) it's sh!te and b) it's sh!te. Can you get pics printed off somewhere?

James H
Hugo Drax

Best use an online place as it will be cheaper and the quality will be (generally) better. I am sure there are lots of them but I can't think of a single one just now....Boots, Jessops etc.
LowLight

Photobox are pretty good. 50 free prints when you sign up too.

Snappy Snaps are ok, you can upload and then collect them from the shop later.

If you want higher quality use Loxley Colour

Bump.
Alex Glass

Thanks HH

Just catching up on this one.

Forgot to say Minx

Don't think too much about it. Any photo you take over the weekend can be included. It doesn't have to be specific just whatever you happen to think is worth photographing. And we all know how good you are at seeing a good photo It isn't a competition and there is no judging. It is just like the recent book "Through the Lens".

It would be good to have as many people as possible submitting photos.
Unh@ppyb@st@rd

should be interesting also Merchant City Festival at weekend
falseface

How did everyone get on?
Chief Inspector

It was a bit hard going for me as I had a busy weekend but down to Boots tomorrow !
Remember guys all the photos we are using for points of refrence and past presents etc
we love them so now is your chance to put something back, go on !
wee minx

I managed to get a few ...I just need to know what size can they be...4x6.......5x7.....8x10.....A3? .
Can I hand them in at the chambers?
Alex Glass

SO!

Did anyone take any pictures they want to include in the Chief's Project

I was in Dublin for the weekend so none of my photos are able to be included and it was late when I got back on Monday.

Looking forward to seeing all your photos.
Fjord

I was way up North that weekend sans camera so no pics from me I'm afraid
Scary

I was very busy at the weekend, so nothing from me I`m afraid :(
Alex Glass

Scary

Your photos of Rothesay would fit with the project. As you know it is one of Glasgow's favourite boat trips and would be ideal.

You too Minxy
Scary

I`m sorry Alex, but this is one I`m not going with, I don`t like this `do it `stuff and the more I hear it the less I want to participate, please respect my reasons and let it be.
Fjord

Alex

It's was a great idea and it was unfortunate that quite a few folks missed it,
myself included btw.

So how about changing the remit and extending it to either a specific month or even perhaps year?

I'm sure we've all got a shed load of pics stashed on our HD's that'll probably never see the light of day let alone be printed... I know I have and I'd probably allow at least one of them to be archived for posterity
Alex Glass

No problems Scary.

The Chief thought that it would be a good idea to do something that would be kept for others to appreciate in years to come. The book "Through The Lens" was only achievable by photographers from photo clubs throughout Glasgow doing something similar 50 years ago.

But it is not compulsory that everyone should do it I just thought that you hadn't thought about the link between Glasgow and Rothesay.

I have agreed to assist the Chief with this Fjord. He is the person who thought i would be possible to get some interest over the September weekend. If he want to extend it I don't have a problem.

Great post Fjord, wot I wanted to say sorta, but, thurs 30 odd pages of pics in Glasgow pics in the forum, why not just take the good yins from there and let people do thur own thing ?
Alex Glass

I recently trawled through my photos to do a couple of videos of 2007. I know what you are saying guys it was just an idea to try and gt everyone to do something over a short period of time so that it didn't take too long.

If the Chief wants to re-think this I don't have any problem. As you say we will all have photos that we could contribute. I would be happy to select a few but as I said the idea was to try and concentrate it over a very short period so that it would be too much to ask people to get involved with and hopefully provide a snapshot of Glasgow at a certain time.

Maybe the Chief could have a think about changing the remit.

Maybe you should have led by example ?

Ok...I've been reading here and I feel something is not quite right... I didn't want to participate as i said.. and so many were very keen anyway...but nothing seemed to be happening, so I had a go to support CI. Now I'm not happy with it at all..so I'll not be submitting any photos...sorry guys.
Alex Glass

That would have been difficult from Dublin Scary

I thought it was a good idea to keep it short. It would have allowed everyone to do something that could be kept for future use.

Maybe we could have had a discussion about what everyone wanted to do and that would have accommodated any misgivings some people may have had.

If the remit changes I will happily provide my photos

Just cos you were in Dublin Alex, believe it or not the world kept on turning, Eh Ffs Bassa..I  along with another UG resident chopped and changed our routines to accomodate others who didnt bother to / or couldnt make the day out to Rothesay.
All in all, me and Minx had a great day and a lot of that is down to Minxy`s great chartacter otherwise it woulda beeen a washout, so please put yourself in others shoes before you start spouting off about pics.

Maybe we could have had a discussion about wot people wanted to do....but we didnt and that is the whole problem here, I think its`s discussed elsewhere ie : a hidden hidden bit and that makes it all the more disappointing .
All in all it was a holiday weekend and a bad time to ask people to take pics, Me personally, i`m happy to contribute, but I wont put up with being bullied, seriously look back at all your comments it`s pathetic.

Scary I am truly sorry if you feel that I have been bullying you into contributing to a project that was never discussed in any hidden hidden bit. The Chief had asked me if I would help him by arranging for everyone's pictures to be stored away in the Mitchell. I thought it was a good idea and agreed to assist. Maybe I have overstepped the mark by trying to encourage you and Minx to include your photos from your trip to Rothesay. I genuinely was not intending to bully you or Minx to include them i just thought that they would be good for others to see in years to come.

I am also sorry that you appear to have been put out by the lack of others showing up for the trip. I never at any time said I would be attending as my trip to Dublin had been arranged sometime ago. I do realise that the world doesn't revolve around me. Maybe I should have kept out of this project and just waited till those who are taking part send their photos.

As I have repeatedly said I have now wish to upset anyone and am very sorry if you feel that I have been bullying you and Minx to participate in a project you didn't want to contribute to. Please accept my sincere apologies. I am very sorry to have caused any upset.
Scary

Alex. any apologies are accepted and I didn`t mean to make this a personal issue with you
It just seemed to be one thing after another wot with the competition ( I have already stated my reasons for not entering them) and then this:(

In my opinion the compy descended into farce when Zoe posted that she had missed 5 pages....not 5 posts, but 5 whole pages and something like 5 weeks notice...I had intended putting some pics up, but forgot all about it even the thread getting bumped wasn`t enuff for me as I was busy. but when the closing date got moved I pulled right out of it as that is a cue to surreptitious dealings going on.:(
My last point and it involves a new member is,...All and sundry were saying Poodies pic shoulda won etc, well IMHO  the best pic won...It won coz it was the best pic of a door and Poodies (great pic that it was) wasn`t.
So my point is that competition breeds contempt as you can see:( I`m in here for the fun...lets start having some and drop the politics and baggage.

For the record....I have met Alex and he comes across as a nice guy and I have no truck with him or anyone else, just don`t wanna be coersed into things, Sorry for the rant, but there ye go
Alex Glass

Thanks Scary

Enough said on this one for me I think

Have fun afte all as you say this is what UG is all about.

Scary.

This thread isn't a competition. Reading your comments above makes it look like
you're confusing this thread (a voluntary photo submission Project) with >>this<<
- an actual competition, one which was arranged independent of Urban Glasgow.

Unless I'm missing something?

I am sorry but I have read through this whole thread and can't find the bit where I mentioned elections. I know that last night I mentioned it somewhere but it doesn't seem to be here.

If this has offended you both I am very sorry. I always try to avoid bringing politics into any of my posts here on UG. My reference was a bit tong in cheak and was not meant as a political reference.

VERY SORRY
Chief Inspector

Hi guys
Sorry if I have been a bit slow to respond here, been working all weekend.
First of all what I thought would be an easy project to manage and one to enjoy for all of us has caused a bit of upset.
If anyone is still wanting to get involved and I have spoken to a couple of you about using photographs outwith the September Weekend (the only reason I had wanted the September Wekend was to keep some continuity
in the project.
Alex involvement was to host the Photographs and store them,There is no financial gain or political gain for Alex, he was kind enough to offer his services, as far as I know this has not been discussed at a higher level other than public forum.
This was only a chance to showcase  ALL your excellent work
Any  recent photos from the last year or so that you think
may fall into the category of a social history of Glasgow.
Again sorry for any upset this has caused any members of UG
I'm sure we all come to UG for different reasons, but one  surely is its
hope of success.
