Shawbridge Demolition by Reigart

reigart have now got one of the 17 floor blocks in shawbridge at shawholm crescent next to  pollockshaws west train station, any pics and comments on this blocks demolition can be posted here!
fastnet

160 went to a 12 hour site for concierge last week so it won't be long until the demo squad move in.
maximusmop

is that the other 17 floor block nearby fastnet?
fastnet

It's the one in the middle of Shawbridge st next to the burn...
norrie

HI fastnet, are all the high rise in Shawbridge st due to be demolished
fastnet

Yes they are norrie although I don't know when exactly.
norrie

Hi fastnet, thanks for the information
maximusmop

thats the block by the burn maxia is its name now sealed up and in reigarts hands
norrie

It wont be long till all of the high rise in that area are down
I worked doing cover, in two of the blocks a few years ago, it was great to patrol, the corridors were all heated
fastnet

The only one that will be left eventually norrie is gartcraigs which is up at the roundabout.
norrie

Hi fastnet, is that the one that is mostly elderly folk in it?
I was told not to bother patrolling that one while in Shawbridge st
Are you the concierge that I met at one of our wee drinkie nights
fastnet

Yes that is the one norrie.

And yes....It was me that you met that night.
the_scorpion

I probably know both you guys if you worked at those flats. Small world
fastnet

Scorpion......I just moved over to the south side last March after 20 years in the East......Covered just about every site in the south side in the last year right enough.
the_scorpion

I did the cameras on all those flats when i worked with video watchman. Only been away from them since October 2010.
fastnet

I'll probably know you then.....Worked in Cranhill for 20 years.
the_scorpion

Worked there quite a lot so should know you. I was the one that always turned up towing the cherry-picker with the silver Renault traffic. That was before the vans changed to white Citroen's and they bought a van picker.
maximusmop

one block is being stripped, the other at the burn only got the fencing put up friday, double blowdown?
fastnet

Quite possibly mate.......I can't see any reason for the nibbler unless it's cheaper...
norrie

Hi Scorpian, I worked at Norfolk Court Gorbals, I was doing cover at Shawbridge st
the_scorpion

I've been to Norfolk a few times too.
norrie

Hi Scorpian, we may well have met but I left about 6 years ago???
derelictglasgow

drove past those flats on monday... demolition men were smashing the place up at quite a rate in a couple of bits of plant. It won't take em long....
fastnet

Kinda on topic......One of the flats on Shawholm crescent facing pollokshaws road were demolished the other day.

Took them less than a day...........
norrie

Hi Fastnet, whan you look at the old photos of the area from the 60s, its a pity they demolished it all for these HRFs, what a waste
fastnet

Going to get pics tomorrow norrie.....
norrie

Hi Fastnet, great stuff but I have had my fill of HRFs demolitions
fastnet

Sorry norrie......Some pics from today.

It will be strange to revisit the place once the high rises have gone. I spent many a morning walking by these giants on the way to work!
norrie

Hi fastnet, I guess those piles were flats
fastnet

Yes norrie....Just like those wee four high ones in the pic..
maximusmop

the buses are diverted out of the shaws for a month and the block on the main road has no roof!
maximusmop

the bus re routings off

I think these pics from a couple of weeks ago fit in here;

Nice set BT
norrie

Hi BTjustice, good shots
Sad really, they ripped the heart out of that area to build these flats and now there being pulled down
Another area where they should have modernised the older buildings?
fastnet

Funny you should say that norrie as I was told today that the 2 smaller sets of flats across from the shops are being kept and modernised.
smb95

Are the remaining three to be demolished?
fastnet

Yes.

There will be a new concierge station built at  Gartcraigs covering there and Harriet place.

Great photos Alan, Cybers, Marblez and Beano. Although mine won't be anywhere near the quality do you four guys photos I will post some up as soon as I can and hopefully there will be one or two different from what has been posted already.

For the record the photos are from 93 Shawholm Crescent.

Although the weather wasn't great it was a good morning with a fantastic bunch of UG Explorers.

93 Shawholm Crescent

Finally managed to get my photos uploaded so here goes with some of my photos from Friday.

cybers

That is a good wee set that is    Loved the inclusion of the fireplace.
Alex Glass

Marblez

Never saw the drawings Alex .. shows how much more a group of us can capture
fastnet

Great set Alex.

Love the drawings.

PS.... I would have whipped them......
Marblez

They look like adverts from the fifties (or older)  ... I agree wi John ye should have taken them
fastnet

Marblez wrote:

Well you would know mate............
Alex Glass

Thanks guys more to come shortly.

Marblez you are right. There is lots to be captured and a group works well at getting lots of different shops although there will be similarities too.

Aye Beano and Norrie telt me
Alex Glass

They were pasted onto card but the two original drawings looked great too. They fifties ones were not on the wall when I got there I stuck them back up to take the photos of them

I left them up just in case someone else ventured into the room to take a photo.
Doog Doog

Cracking sets there. Hopefully I will manage to get to the next one.
norrie

Good shots guys, sorry I missed it
I would have taken the posters, the demolishers will treat them as junk
The drawings ? yep would have had them too, might be worth a bob or two some time
Hawick_1987

I hate the Monday to Friday, 9-5 Parton shifts, which means I miss great days like these! Nice photos though lads, job well done.

Regardless it would still be theft. One mans junk etc. As we were there on an organised visit it would have been a pretty poor example to be charged with theft and a piss poor reflection on the guy that organised the event.

Take photos, Leave Footprints.
Always the best policy and can get you out of many a scrape when searched for exiting those erm other places

Did ye have a wee lie down after running up and down all those stairs Mr G ... ye've got some good stuff there

For me that about sums up a Scottish window view.... See the streets see the rolling hill see the fecking satellite dishes

Nice wee set and the bowling club .... dammit how did I miss that.
Alex Glass

It wasn't so obvious Cybers I had to lean out the window to get the club house shot it was in line with the corner of the building and I just managed to keep the building line out the shot.
Marblez

cybers wrote:

Don't worry, I missed it too ... still trying to work out exactly where it was
Alex Glass

you had to be on the south facing side and look to the right to see the club house. The green was visible from the North facing side on the left just up from the station.
Marblez

Yep - got it on Google Maps - as you say Alex you'd need to be leaning out to see it ... well spotted
Alex Glass

It is always easy when you know what you are looking for Marblez. I pass it on the train every week day and when I seen the greens I knew the club house would be close to the other side.
Marblez

See - a wee bit of "insider knowledge" goes a long way ... tbh it is not an area of Glasgow I know that well, the only time I was in the Shawbridge corridor was when making deliveries in the late 90s.
cybers

I took my driving test there, as a fevered 17 year old entering that roundabout at 4pm on a Friday seemed insane and suicidal. Got through it made it back to the test centre and was handed my pass slip by the poshest guy I had ever met. Felt brilliant taking the L plates off and able to drive home on my own. If only I knew then what I know now.
norrie

Hi cybers, well I was told, now you have passed your test, you will learn to be a driver and remember, your the best driver on the road, the rest are idiots
cybers

I was given two bags marked Luck and experience by my then girlfriends mum the day i passed. She was a nurse and handed them to me, a little one was marked Luck, the other a big one Experience she said try to fill the experience bag before the luck one runs out. Something that stuck with me ever since and a saying I have passed on more than once

Hi BTJustice, is that the last of the High rise in Shawbridge st? its been a while since I was in that area
fastnet

I'm sure there is still one to go norrie.

Well I did still see one from work today....
BTJustice

there is the block they are working on now, a cleared for demolition block beside it and a block that still has windows in further along the road. I'm on my phone just now so can't post the link but if you check my Flickr you will see a shot overlooking the blocks.
