Stray WW2 Bombs

An elderly neighbour told me years ago about an air raid where two stray bombs were dropped. One hit a bungalow somewhere in Muirend, and the other left an indentation that can still be seen today right at the white bridge in the Linn Park. I think this may have been in 1943. Does anyone know anything about this air raid ?

Bombs

Not sure if it's from the same raid but there is a bomb buried deep under a major road in the north side of Glasgow - unexploded - but is so deep that it has been deemed to be of no real risk even in the unlikely event that it did go off, which really is highly unlikely.

Rather not say where it is exactly as, even though it's quite safe where it rests, it may worry people, albeit it's really quite far from any habitation - they just couldn't recover it at the time or subsequently.

Thanks for that info Paul. I had never heard of that one. Recently there was a Herman 1000 pounder found in the river Mersey that they had to explode, and one wartime American bomb in Germany somewhere that exploded and killed some people. There must still be loads of them out there to this day.

Bombs over Glasgow

Hi there,

There was a thread on Hidden Glasgow about stray bombs in Glasgow during WW2. There may be mentions in there.

Thanks mination .....  Yes, I did look at that a while ago but did not see it there. They have some good reports on that topic.
