Summer holiday 1966, Clyde Tighnabruaich and Kames

I have not been on much for while, but do browse often.  Quality as good as always.  Brilliant and many thanks.

I have been scanning old negs, and reached several films I shot in summer of 66 while on holiday.  Thought I'd share some even though I haven't had time to clean the negs, or polish up the photos.

We took the train to Gourock to pick up the steamer.  So it starts on Gourock pier.

That's it for the moment.  I need to go through the others carefully.

All taken with my Halina Paulette electric, which sadly died a few years later.

Lovely images Hillmanimp that Halina Paulette electric 35mm camera takes a sharp photo.
All we need is Shuggie Spicer to put names to the Clyde steamers, he knows a thing or two about them.

Fjord

I have compared my pictures of the paddle steamer with 2 funnels with online pictures of the Waverley, and I am 99% certain that that is her.  Number of portholes, layout etc.

I had a higher resolution image of the ship I was on, and the name on the lifebelt was just readable as Caledonia.

I will make some very high resolution pictures in the next few days and see if I can obtain confirmation of the names.

I have scanned some of them at much higher resolution.

MV Cowal at Gourock.

The one we were on was the Caledonia

The twined funnelled one is not detailed enough, but the shape of the name suggests Waverley.

Hi Fjord

The Halina did take pretty good photos as long as one didn't try to push it to the limits.

The very dark one above is of the engine.  Not much to see but I included it for interest.  One of these days I'll see if I can improve it with Photoshop to bring out more detail.

The 2 photos in the post are of Rothesay, and from the contact print positives, as I can't locate the negatives.

Cyber

Here is what this one looks like in a screenshot from Google maps.

Perhaps 1/4 mile south of Millhouse near Kames, bridge over the Allt Osda

I am going to post up 3 more sets and that's it I'm afraid.  The rest are duplicates or similar to ones that I have posted.
