Sydney street and Melbourne street

a question which has been puzzling me for sometime where did Sydney street and Melbourne street get there names I have googled them and checked a few books but cant find an answer. I would guess at an Australian connection but cant think what. or is it a strange coincidence that they are both named after Australians places? surely not!.
they are not near the docks and if they were named after Australian places you might think they would be closer to the docks.
However I am sure there will be someone on here that will know.
