The Kendal in Argyle street

Passed where this pub stood a few days ago and for a minute couldnt remember what was there, but it was the Kendal Too.. it seems the punters were asked by police to leave often as it was so dangerous.. wonder if they did right enough..

The Kendal was on the corner of Blytheswood Street and Argyle Street - that's the one shown in the picture on the Old Glasgow Pubs site. However I think the OGP site gives the wrong number on Argyle Street - that number would correspond with the Kendal Too, which is the building that partially remains on corner of York Street and Argyle Street.

I had been in the Kendal Too a couple of times, probably 15 years ago. I know someone who worked there, he might have more info on when it was closed/fell down!

There was a pub on the other side of the street, can't remember its name, anyway

Pubs had happy hours at different times resulting in mass exodus across the road when the bell rung

could it have been the Rendezvous.

Spoke to my mate last night. He was working there on it's final day. Sometime in 2002. There had been some sort if collapse - he can't remember if it was the roof or a ceiling above the pub.

Anyway, Health and Safety came in and immediately evacuated the pub. It never reopened.

He's not sure if the rest of the building collapsed after that or whether it was partially demolished to make it safe - but it looks a bit too haphazard to me to have been a professional demolition (although I'm in no way qualified to actually say that with any force!)

It was demolished around 2003/4 (not by me) it looks like the demo company have worked to a structural engineers instruction and used part of the Kendall building as shoring on the exposed gable along with lots of shoring / RMD.
