The seaplane lowered into Lewis shop , Argyle Street , 1940?

My father, aged 89, remembers the roof of Lewis shop, Argyle st,  being opened to lower in the seaplane which broke a flying record for a display. This plane was precursor of the |Spitfire. He was a young lad/early teen and was gobsmacked at the time. I would love to find a record or photo of this to show him! Anybody got any info? My Dad was one of the original Partick Camera club who were asked to capture images of Glasgow before "modernization" and his photos are in the book, "Glasgow Through The Lens" 1955.
