UK Politician Calls Police War On Photography 'Daft'

UK Politician Calls Police War On Photography "Daft"

British Labour MP Austin Mitchell is as annoyed as we are about the UK police's
persecution of photographers.

The Member of Parliament for Great Grimsby, England has tabled a formal motion
to introduce a "photography code" which would make clear the rights of people
to take photographs in public places:

Quote:
This house is concerned to encourage the spread and enjoyment of photography
as the most genuine and accessible people's art; deplores the apparent increase
in the number of reported incidents in which police, Police Community Support
Officers (PCSOs) or wardens attempt to stop street photography, and order
the deletion of photographs or the confiscation of cards, cameras or film on
various specious grounds.

Mitchell asked the venerable magazine Amateur Photographer to assist by providing
details of relevant cases, and calls the harassment of photographers who catch
CCTV cameras in their pictures "daft", pointing out that almost every public
building in the UK is "festooned with closed circuit television cameras."

I expect it will fall flat, but here's hoping

Many folk don't know the rights they have when it comes to photography and rather than 'cause a fuss' comply with the requests of these over zealous officials who over step the mark.

I carry a few copies of the photographer's rights summary in my camera bag

I was a victim of this though to be fair NOTW would have paid good cash if i had indeed photographed what they thought i had...
Latest one on the news recently was the Cathcart photographers taking pictures of the trains.
Any members from here was it ? How stupid is this going to get. i was recently stopped as can be seen in my flickr for taking images of the Forth bridge at night FFS.
Then the thick copper had to agree with me that i could have came there during the day took several thousand high resolution images that would capture way more detail than a night shot and i would have been classed as a tourist and would not have stood out from the crowd.

The Photographers Right's Summary it would seem or i was told is not worth the paper its printed on as the rules have changed in our global climate.

Sorry the conversation that then followed that was I was accused of racism for daring to state the obvious. it's not a global problem it's a muslim one.

Should have went to Gordon Browns door in the same toon and asked his opinion on the facts ....It was 2.30 AM

The photographer's rights summary gathers the parts of laws that directly affect a person taking pictures. Those laws have not changed since it was released.

Some of the anti-terrorist legislation is dangerously vague and having a combination of seemingly innocent articles on your person can be result in you being arrested.

Anyone want to buy a Casio F91W?

Added that link to my site, I only hope some sense is brought to bear here
