Well spotted Schiehallion aslo worth noting is the use of public spaces like this example in a small playpark in the Govanhill area.

Due east of that park, you'll see more 'public space' ones immediately north of the Victoria Primary School in Batson St. That never developed area used to be a small hill where the kids slid down on boards.

In 1964 Glasgow Corporation were given a government grant to remove the communal air raid shelters. The penny finally dropped at Westminster that these shelters in any future war would be of no use! Kaboom!

978 were removed in the winter of 1963 and more would go in 1964 if they were unsound or were in the way of a future development. Even with that number removed, some 1400 still existed.

Alec Douglas-Home's Tory government had given the limited grant to create 'winter employment' for unskilled manual workers in demolishing them during 1963-64. Most of the rest appear to have been demolished in 1968

my mum lived on shields road and she told me there was an underground air raid shelter in the playground of the school

I got a nice crop of the Calton area between Gallowgate, Abercromby St, London Road and Glasgow Cross from the photo labelled Gorbals 3.
I even managed to get a view of my granny's old house at the top of Tobago street!

Did we not have a "display elsewhere on pain of death" rule about these photographs

Are the folks at 'the other place' aware?
They were bought when most of us were still there. Gap74 was a lot more active over there than he ever was here.

A post with an almost identical layout has appeared on the FB page of the thieving site containing the name Maryhill! 😬
