Barr's...

Here are some shots of machinery and of one of the production lines,
taken around the mid 80s. This line was used to produce the colours (as they were known), as irn bru was mainly produced on the larger, faster more modern line.

These are of a semi automatic case palletizer, pictured in the back yard awaiting being scrapped.

What brilliant pictures, especially that one.

Thank you Marti for showing us behind the scenes at Barr's

These photos are fantastic and now that the factory has closed they are all that remain of the connection to the East End and Glasgow.

Thanks alex...  Never ever thought that with the amount of investment and money spent in that site (and it was a lot) that it would close. Still, at least the product is still available and going strong, which during these times, is something.

Was it not replaced with Orangina?

Am I right in thinking Barrs is the only company that can produce orangina in the UK?

tell me you photoshopped that kid on a chopper, that is too perfect

Nope, I shopped the falling verticals and tanned the levels a bit as the neg was underexposed, but the kid on the chopper was for real. There were plenty of kids on choppers about then. I think it was not long after Christmas 1975.

Cheers, marty.

Sorry Marti, can't oblige there. I was focussed on buildings coming down, or about to, or likely to.
