I took two pictures of the last Laurieston block whilst on my way to someone's birthday party today.  Had to be taken on the quick camera due to lack of time to go on to the normal camera application.  The photos are from my iPhone 4.

Anybody know what that was?

Edited to add: Think I found it... The UCWS bakery, demolished in 1973

U.C.B.S bakery I used to work in there, another building that should never have been demolished.
full name (United Co-operative Baking Society)

Hi smb95, Norfolk Court has a short time left, once the new houses are finished on the site of Stirlingfaulds HRF they will be emptied and demolished a year or so I reckon
The only HRF that will be left in Gorbals, will be the ones at Caledonia rd and Ballater st, they are the ones that have had money spent on them

Hi beano, yes the UCBS was some building but like many in Glasgow there was no plan to convert them to offices or housing at that time
Shame, what would Glasgow look like if all this type of building had been saved

The real travesty is we also lost that fantastic bandstand. Glasgow is a revolving modern city at one time the bakery was very modern for its time and was no doubt hated by people same as the new Steel Glass and polished alloys are today. Though the Bakery would have outlasted many of these modern eyesores by many decades.

Interesting wee article in the Record.

Remembering the words and pictures that exposed Glasgow's slums in the 1940s
