Not too sure how many have actually seen this and i make no claim to being its creator. But if you are the original artist then i beg forgiveness and claim this was not for profit.
Pretty sure i remember it as one of a few from My kid hood barbers...

Johnnie Ionta barbers shop on the Gallowgate near the corner of Soho st.
I remember he used to put a board across the arms of the chair and tell me to climb up so he could cut my hair. The shop was alway packed with punters. I think he had three brothers working in the same shop.

Yer i had the old red board too .... All you could smell in the shop was capstan and hair oil....
His brother worked there when i was a lad Tommy ... Used to see them walking home with his wee black leather bag up Whitehill St at night.

Was there not a cartoon version of Johnny himself ?

Makes for such happy reading but saddened bythe news of their passing.
It comes to us all i suppose but that shop was an anchor point for many an eastender.
I remember if it got past closing time he used to shut the shop and there was a chair or two in the back room.

Yes I agree with that, but it's funny to think a simple everyday thing like a barbers shop can mean so much to a lot of people and that say's a lot about the Ionta brothers.

Hello,

Fascinating site.  I have looked through a lot of the photographs from the 70s and 80s, but have only come across one photograph of Hanson Street, which shows 'Kelvin Timbers'.  Are there other photographs of these particular areas on the site?  If so, please can you advise where I can find them?

Many thanks,

M.
