My grandfather on my mum's side, Neil Redpath, once had Tam round for tea, as he helped to found the Labour Party's local branch in Hawick. My half-sister Pat says he was "a right haver". I grew up in the same house on Burnfoot Road.

I was once shown round The Binns by Tam's daughter, 1979ish probably.

Nothing personal though, she was acting as the guide on a conducted tour.
