I‘m not very happy with this collection, and don’t expect anyone else to be. After ‘doing’ the Gorbals and Townhead I looked round for another once decent area that had fallen on hard times and had the bulldozers lurking, and I picked on Garnethill. This was a poor choice as it turned out, since although the northern margins have been nibbled at and a few handsome tenement blocks have fallen derelict and been demolished, the area remains very largely intact, in stark contrast to what befell Woodside, Maryhill and Springburn. The deep narrow canyons of Garnethill gave the fixed-lens Yashica rollfilm camera a problem and I got a cheap Russian 35mm Kiev with interchangeable lenses to cope with them. Some falling off in image quality is discernible.

Anyway, almost half the collection deals with the Garnethill canyons, which gets a bit tedious. There are half a dozen of Yorkhill, a few G3 churches now demolished or converted, some fairly pointless shots in the Park district and the west end, which were never going to suffer redevelopment, and a pitiful few of Woodside and Maryhill. I didn’t visit Springburn at all, and offer apologies to anyone who is particularly disappointed by this. At the end are some shots of the canal which will be of limited interest.

Rose St and West Graham St, Milton UF Church. [In 1843] the [Milton] congregation joined the Free Church and a new building was erected on the corner of Rose Street and West Graham Street in 1850. The congregation joined with St Vincent Street Free Church in 1994, when the united congregation became known as St Vincent Street-Milton Free Church of Scotland. The Milton building, being unsafe and beyond reasonable repair, was demolished in the same year. March 1974
