The Haghill Chord 2009 - the house on the right prevented me from taking
the picture from the exact same location.

Excellent stuff,James.
Its not until you compare them that you realise just how much has changed in 40 years.

In response to Purple Thistle's posts elsewhere, I took a few snaps on the way to work this morning. They're not spot-on but should give some sense of the change for those of you not familiar with this area.
First two, St George's Rd looking north.
Eddy

Next two , at the Cross looking over to Maryhill Rd.

Looking east along New City Rd.

Lastly, looking west along Gt Western Rd.

The school was founded by David Stow in the 1840s and was based on the French system, Ecole Normal, hence Normal School. It was a religious school and in the great Scottish tradition, split, with Stow going off in the huff to found yet another school.
There was a pub opposite  the school  - The Normal Bar. Nae kiddin'!
