I was inspired by the thread on Scottish Castles to start this one on foreign castles and palaces.

At Easter 1975 I was going on trip to the Rhineland and liked the photo on my guide book so much, I decided to go there and take one myself.

The castle is Burg Gutenfels and it is above the town of St. Goarshausen.  The castle on the island is Die Pfalze.  The Lorelei is the large rock on the left hand side just where the Rhine disappears round the bend.  (The Lorelei is a bit like Dunbarton rock)

Nice ones Beano! I called the thread castels and palaces because I have visited a number of both over the years. I just have to get around to scanning them. Hopfully other forumistas have visited other interesting places too and share their photos.

Versailles  August 1975

View from the back.  Normal 50mm lens, no wide angle lens so couldn't get all of it in.

Inside!   The hall of mirrors.  Again couldn't get it all in.

Neuschwanstein in Bavaris.

Built by King Lugwig II and used in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

This one is a post card

Hohenschwangau where Ludwig had grown up.  It is visible in the post card to the right hand side of the lake.
