I was inspired by the thread on Scottish Castles to start this one on foreign castles and palaces.

At Easter 1975 I was going on trip to the Rhineland and liked the photo on my guide book so much, I decided to go there and take one myself.

The castle is Burg Gutenfels and it is above the town of St. Goarshausen. The castle on the island is Die Pfalze. The Lorelei is the large rock on the left hand side just where the Rhine disappears round the bend. (The Lorelei is a bit like Dunbarton rock)

For the attention of Beano!!

I happened to watch the first part of Julia Bradbury's German Wanderlust on Friday on BBC2.  It was about exactly this part of the Rhineland.

Some info here.  The programme is still available on  iPlayer for another couple of days!

The programme this coming Friday is on the Bavarian Alps in the area around the castle Neuschwanstein.
