Hi Udrigle

Would that cottage have been where the Queensway shop was?

Hi there, i am sorry it has taken so long but i have had very little spare time recently.  I found some old pictures of nitshill road from around the late 70's and built a panorama from them. The 2 cottages are shown along with the original B & Q. The road at the left of the cottages led to the old Darnley Mains Farm. To the right, between the cottages and B & Q is where the M77 now runs. If i get a chance i will try and get a current view from the same place. The original photo's were taken from the top of the hill at the back of Kylerhea road in Arden.  Southpark village and Sainsburys carpark now occupy the hills in the background.

The site of the old B&Q and Queensway (was that the place in the unit attached to the side of B&Q?) now has the KFC/McDonalds etc on it, so would the M77 not run at the very lefthand extremity of that picture?

I think the cottages were where the on ramp heading to newton mearns is now, i had forgot about Queensway! what type of store was it,furniture? It is difficult to get an updated picture as there are now trees blocking the view from where the originals were taken.

I think the Mearns on-ramp is quite far up the hill compared to where the B&Q was. Does Darnley Mains Road run along what was the road up to the old farm or was it on a completely new site?

eI'm sure Queensway was a furniture store and I seem to recollect that another company had that unit at some point as well, although I can't remember who it was

I only remember it as 'Brown Bear' so not sure if that name precedes Queensway or not, this is back in the day B&Q was Dodge city.

The hedgeine at the top right of the picture is still there running along the field at the back of sainsbury's car park behind the petrol station. I still walk my dog along it on occasions. The on ramp to the mearns leaves nitshill road, which hasn't moved but has been widened, around about the cottages, the M77 itself crosses nitshill road and runs over the ground between the cottages and the retail units. KFC and Macdonalds now occupy the ground that B&Q Brown bear etc once did. I may have some other photo's without snow which may be clearer. i will try and scan them soon.

The "Reconsiliation" statue has been erected at the bridge over Brock Burn on Cowglen Road.

I was out and about yesterday and got a photo of the fosilised tree in Househill Park.
