Still on the theme of Househill Park, this dreary part of Peat Road is all that remains of the entrance to the original road which ran from Peat Road to Househill:-
The arrow on this 1934 County Series map shows roughly where the above photo was taken:-
In the sixties I remember this part of the road had become a tree-lined lane. You can still see traces of it from Glenlora Drive, but I refuse to photograph it as there's a kids' nursery in the vicinity The above-mentioned entrance is on the bottom right corner of this map:-

I didn't realise that this was a road Neil It was always just referred to as the lane and was usually a dumping ground until the fence was erected.
Did the road point in the direction of Househill House? _________________ I had a dream today

It's still a dumping ground; when I was there I saw a huge fridge lying behind the fence.
There was actually another road leading to Househill which can just be seen on the left of the 1934 map. This actually came from Nitshill Road via Prestwick Street. |

You are right Neil but it was a lot worse before. I think there has been a problem getting things collected from the path as they lock the gates.
Anyway great work Neil. _________________ I had a dream today

Hi There just been reminising the old photos- takes me back years!
I grew up in Nitshill during the 70's and 80's seen a lot of changes and some bad sh!t go down over the years, I've moved on as many of us have, Glad the area is going through some regeneration.
Does anyone have a pic of the old Jackie Connors Garage when it used to sell bikes- the big glass frontage and the old "Dr who" police box outside the Cavvy!
Once again thanks for the pics, _________________ Yon wis rare! |

I grew up in the grounds of Darnley Hospital in the late 70's and still remember it like yesterday.
My dad was the on call porter and we lived in the wee bungalow next to the Morgue.
I have 100 and 1 stories about the place but i'll go into them another time.....
I remember Jackie Connors and the BP garage on Nitshill road as well as the Nia Roo but I always remembered the wee shortcut through the industrial estate across the bridge to Priesthill.
It was the quickest way to pollok from there. _________________ My Photo's

i worked in Jackie Conners for about 3 years, BP garage was later. Loved the floods under the bridge Also lived in Darnley at time & crossed wee bridge many a time as father in law lived in Glenmuir which is strange as i lived at other side of Glenmuir for years before moving away.
The story how Jackie Conner got Nitshill Petrol Station is a story & a half. Jackie only owned cycle shop at one piont and was a keen cyclist and held many trophies at his cycle club believe they have cup in his honour |
