My USB crashed and I had to reformat the card. Is there any way to recover photos? I tried a few free programmes but they either crash or just don't work.

If you formatted the card the answer really is no, not without using some forensic program but they are not cheap ... Never format a card because the USB has crashed run the freebie programs first to remove photos before formatting.

Kernel for Windows Recovery is a useful tool that is capable of recovering data from all types of external storage devices including memory cards, MMC cards, XD cards, secure digital cards, SD and mini SD cards, memory stick and so on. This memory card recovery tool can fix problems like wrong Windows partitioning, virus attack, damaged or deleted partitions and Windows registry corruption errors to restore data.

I've managed to get some from the recycle bin, and I had uploaded some to my blog, albeit reduced quality. Absolutely gutted.  I had some cracking panoramas which I've now lost.

Although my USB was formatted the SD camera from within the camera wasn't, so I thought I would check it. I downloaded Stellar Photo Recovery, and scanned the SD card. I could see thumbnails of some of the stuff I'd lost (and stuff I'd long since thought deleted).
I now need to buy the full product and hopefully recover them, but before I do, has anyone used this programme and is it succesful? Are the images good resolution like the original or inferior, or just thumbnails?
Anyone help?

If you have a San Disk card you usually get a licence for their recovery software which is very good and can recover files even if the card has been formatted.

Most formatting these days is done simply by writing a blank File Allocation Table. The files usually remain on the disk untouched - as long as you don't write anything else to the card or drive you can usually get most of them back.

Don't worry... definitely you can recover deleted or lost photos from your memory card. If you are using Windows OS then digital photo recovery on windows can be done very easily using Remo Recover (Windows) - Basic Edition software. You can download and install demo version of the software in your system to evaluate chances of recovery.

Hi,

I have a Nikon DSLR camera which i often use to capture photos whenever i go out. Last week i had been to my friends wedding party, where i met most of the school mates and captured lot of pictures. Yesterday unknowingly i formatted my memory card and then realised that there were some pics. So is there any possibilities to get them back. Your help would be appreciated.

Camera: Nikon D5100 SLR

Card : Sony SD Card

Computer: Dell laptop with Windows 7
