A few keystrokes could bring tidal wave to city (Evening Times)

THESE are some of Glasgow's iconic landmarks as you have never seen
them before beneath a mighty flood.

Large tracts of the riverside in Glasgow, including the Science Centre and
Armadillo, are constructed on the former flood plain of the Clyde - and
this is how they will look if the waters rise to catastrophic levels.

The scenes are part of a new online computer game that lets players
make the kind of decisions faced by governments as they juggle
industrial development, flood prevention plans and environmental
concerns.

And, as the picture suggests, getting it wrong in the real world could spell
disaster.

The game, which also includes disaster simulations for other cities such as
London, Birmingham and Manchester, was developed by insurance firm
Norwich Union. Its aim is to alert homeowners and businesses to the
dangers of flooding and the factors that can influence the impact of the
climate.

The game can be played at: floodsim.com.

Free charges for electric drivers (BBC)

A car park in Glasgow has installed free charging bays for drivers of electric
vehicles.

Four Elektrobay points were installed on the second floor of St Enoch
Centre Car Park as part of a £2m upgrade.

The shopping centre also said its entire electricity supply now comes from
renewable sources.

The centre aims to install new metering to control and monitor energy.
Solar shading will also be used to control heat and minimise air
conditioning.

The general manager of St. Enoch's, Susan Nicol, said: "We are exploring
every opportunity to adopt initiatives and policies which are in line with
sustainable development.

"The introduction of charging bays for drivers of electric cars will not only
offer a convenient new service for our visitors but also helps to raise
further awareness of greener forms of transport."
