Hi Norrie, not entirely sure what you mean.

Even half a sun that's almost set is still pretty damn bright, and shooting straight into it darkens everything else, everything that doesn't reflect it anyway, even bands of cloud in front of it.

This is from colour film, 21 years ago. Just doing some random scanning.
