I don't use any of the websites mentioned, and you can call me a cynic, but is it at all possible that these "storage" websites offer free storage of pics and documents at the outset to draw people in?

Then when everyone has uploaded all of their stuff, the website adjusts the terms of use by restricting bandwith (and preventing deletion of the previously uploaded material) -- but offering more bandwith for a fee? Seems like a variation on the old "bait & switch" tactic.....

Technically it is still possible to host a home server with the always on connections most of us have as long as as you have a static I.P address.

It's not the easiest thing in the world for the guy in the street to achieve and there are a few addressing issues that can be solved quickly and easily by online hosting companies hence the popularity of Flickr, Photobucket  etc etc.

LD that was one thing which crossed my mind when Flickr started offering the 1TB limit, however as long as you keep your file sizes small and only upload jpegs (not TIFF or RAW) then you will never come close to that. I have over 100K in photos in various formats and I am only using HALF that amount . So in theory even if they did introduce a charge I should be well within my limit

I'm not too familiar with any of the "storage" websites, but from reading the previous postings, it seems to me that they want you to upload your stuff, then when they have it all, they change the rules.

As I say, I'm not too familiar with them so I shouldn't be passing judgement. What about Cloud? And Dropbox? Are they any better/any different?

I got an email from Photbucket a week or so ago, telling me I had used 85% of my storage
I was under the impression my $29 a year got me unlimited storage so I contacted them, right enough things have changed and I will at some time have to upgrade to $49 a year, dont grudge it, less tham 1 a week
Anyway, the nice man I dealt with has added 10GB so that will last me for some time
Seems I have over 31,000 images in Photobucket, I though that was a lot but have since spoken to a friend who has lots more than that

Hi Ken198960, remember if you delete your account, all the photos you have loaded on this web site will vanish

Hi smb198960, I was thinking more of the extra work
Happily my Photobucket is going well, not 100%  but near enough
