The bus is in 1959-73 livery, so i'd say 1960's as well.. |

St Enoch 26 June 1966 - last day of service sees a 6-car DMU in platform 2
and a goods train in platform 6. Viewed from the departure boards.

Stuart Neville has a nice selection of pics from both the hotel and the station on his website, including a few interiors:

St Enoch 26 June 1966 - last day of service sees a DMU in platform 3
and a goods train in the middle road between platforms 3 & 4.

St Enoch, May 1967 - tracks mostly uplifted except for some into the
Southern-most platforms as these were kept open until June 1967 for goods
traffic. Some coaches can be seen in one of the 'outside the roofs' platforms
7 and 8.

I find the loss of St. Enochs station sad.
Would you now believe that Network Rail & Train operating companies are complaining now that there is lack of capacity at the remaining two Glagow Termini? Train operators (Was Glasgow Trains) have actually been turned away because of lack of capacity........a distinct lack of forethought, or quite simply, there was too many backhanders as to what went and where in the 1960s............
With regards to the lack of complaints of capacity at the stations in the conversation I was part of, I did offer, "Wouldn't it be great if Glasgow had had a terminus station in the centre that could be entered from the South and the North......?". I have my own idea of service that could terminate/reverse here removing them from GLQSt and GLC, but that's another story........... |
