I ain't knocking it mate you did good in the circumstances but if you want to get proper results you just need to invest in a decent torch and a bit of photoshop skills which will work wonders for your hard earned pics.
Just bought myself a Maglite LED torch. Should come in handy for future exploration. We had only one torch that day (mine) and it was a cheapy torch I got from Tesco, which then had a bulb from a Tesco Value torch in it (after the original bulb went the night before in the Kelvingrove tunnel) LOL. It was adequate for walking through the tunnel, but not so good at lighting up an area. Honestly though, you would need to be there to realise just how dark it was at the end of that tunnel. What would be ideal though is one of those large halogen spot lamp torches in a situation like this. Not expensive to buy, just the batteries don't last long (about 20minutes apparently from a single charge). LOL maybe we should set up a thread on torches and lighting
Jonno22 was setting his camera up such that it would do the work rather than software later on. Each shot was taking a good 20-30 seconds to take in order to get a decent exposure.
I take it software wise you could even get away with using Google Picassa as a cheaper alternative (since Photoshop can be a tad expensive)? _________________ "No Frills" Airline,,,You cannot board the plane unless you have the exact change

Hi all,
Have really enjoyed reading your adventures in the tunnel, and it got me thinking, my Dad's family came from Townhead, he died some decades ago, but he was brought up in the Station Masters House at what he referred to through my childhood as 'Townhead Station', I had loads of bedtime stories of goods train shunting and the like!
Now my question, is this the same station/tunnel my Dad referred too, the family name is Martin, and Station Master Martin (grandad) and his wife had 4 children 2 boys and 2 girls. But if this is the correct station, where in the photo's is the house - I'd love to know more about them as they (grandad and grandma) both died before I was born.
Forgot to add the dates! My Dad was born in 1937, and he was the youngest, so they'd been there for a while I suppose?
If its the station master houses of Buchanan St station, they were at 328 and 336 Parlie road... long since gone and not in any of these pictures. My great grandfather was the station master of the goods station and lived in 328.
No. 336 lies under North Hanover St and 328 under the bus station _________________ Now coming at you with 95% more significance, 1% less salt and virtually fat free!
Do the names Jim Martin> Mary Martin? Jean Martin mean anything? Twins Stephen & Billy? _________________ Now coming at you with 95% more significance, 1% less salt and virtually fat free!

Yes and no - Uncle Jim Martin was married to Mary, they moved down (as did my Dad Tom) to Blackburn in Lancshire for work in the late 50/60's, Jim worked as an engineer/fitter for BR till he retired, but moved back to Scotland - Inverness to be precise, in the late 70's and finished his time in the depot there.
The girls were Margaret and Isabel, the later has passed on after living in Wakefield for most of her married life. Margaret and her husband moved to Torquay when he retired.
I don't know my Grandad or Grandma's name as I said they died sometime before I was born.
The picture of the steps leading down to the tunnel is strange... of all the pictures I've seen of the tunnel in use and just shut down, there was no steps. They appear to be fairly recent additions
They area had been partially landscaped (filled in) years back. A girder bridge
carrying Dobbies Loan had been removed after the station was closed.
Same area after demolition ..as you said ..girder bridge no more..
Anyone know who the sheds to the right belonged to ?Im sure it was an engineering firm
Hi all - I have been toying with the idea of modelling Buchanan Street Station in 00 for a while and have now started on a plan which will not be a full size representation, but will capture as far as possible the essential features of the station. Thanks to this site, the RCAHMS site and other photographs trawled from the web I have most of the info needed to start building, the area I am struggling to find a photograph of is the North West Corner of the station concourse, the interior shots show the refreshment room (not sure of the name above the door here), and waiting room on the north side, John Menzies Bookstall and some upstairs offices on the south side and the low, more modern, booking office on the west side. Unfortunately the photographer did not do a full circle, leaving that gap at the North West corner. Any former users of the station know what was there??
