Hi,

I spent a lot of time in old Cathkin Park when it was in a dilapidated state through it's renovation etc. Grew up nearby at the top of Mount Florida and in the summers we were there all day almost every day.

Yes, there were rough concrete, long stantions. Corrugated asbestos roofs all round. It was easy to get up onto the roof here at the back. I remember some bigger lads playing with air-guns here shooting vans off the stantions.
Ash surfaced steps with a wooden step liner at the edge.

there was a little white wall around the pitch - think this is still there.

south stand had seen a fire as most of the wooden terrace was gone - only a little at the very back survived. we found that the girders were still ok and we could walk/crawl up them until you got to the last few rows in the corner where you could sit. behind/beside the south stand there were ruined buildings with stairs which could still be walked. These were obviously changing rooms, toilets etc - the toilets stank!
There was also a wide ramp at the east end which would have allowed vehicular access to the top of the terraces.

so many happy memories of which i ain't thought of in years.

Also remember the burnt-out cars which appeared often, the mess of the place when they pulled it all down. The attempts to re-use it with a kids club near Cathcart Road, a tarred playing field nearby which might be still there and exercise stations around the park.. The old BP petrol station beside that which is now flats.

Happy days. Great pics - brought back memories.

Hi Guys, Planning a little visit to the City tomorrow to see the old football ground. Does the 3 sides of the terracing still stand today? I know this may be overgrown but the history of the place makes it a great visit.

Thanks, Alan
