Amusing response to the Gordon Brown's appeal for us to waste less food..

http://www.order-order.com/2008/07/let-them-eat-crusts.html

"Zimbabwe in crisis. Iraq still a mess. Iran developing nuclear weapons. Roads system approaching gridlock. Filthy hospitals killing people. House prices collapse. Economy in meltdown. Treasury demoralised. Banks propped up by state money. Auditors say Government is fiddling national accounts.

What then does the PM choose to focus on? Why, a lot of it is all our fault. We are throwing away too much food that could be eaten.

Thank you Gordon. Your intellectual prowess is astounding. The scales have fallen from my eyes. Now I see it. Owing to the butterfly effect in chaos theory, that mouldy carrot in my kitchen has precipitated a global ecenomic crisis. That jar of pasta sauce just past its sell by date may be the key to our salvation - nay may even save the world.

Thanks Gordon, what would we do without you."

And just to heighten the potential irony here is the menu Gordon will be enjoying at today's G8 summmit.

It's not amusing. It's pathetic. It's saying that all the responsibility falls on figureheads, and that we can do anything we like - none of it can be my fault, I'm an individual and my one little indulgence can't do any harm.

Nonsense. What an individual does makes a difference. It may not be discernible to that individual, but it is on a macro scale.

Misplaced cynicism is the curse of our age.

Thanks for sharing Edward but your response is unusually heated.

For shame! In my day, the working classes would never have dared to speak to a holder of the Order of the British Empire with such direspect. Bring back flogging, I say.

In your day, were they not burning witches at the stake?...

If only that were true, the wife and her mother would have been gone long ago.

Well said, sir. Makes one pine for the days of Rum, Sodomy and The Lash. Although my good friend Max Mosely is doing his best to revive them, I hear.
