|
|
I used a plumber recently to fit a radiator in my kitchen. I quote from his website:
"xxxxx Bathrooms And Plumbing Are specialists in luxury bathroom design and installation. We offer the complete service from a home visit to individualised design and installation by our own in-house tradesmen. We have 20 years Expertise in the bathroom trade based in the bearsden area covering Glasgow and west scotland Give us a call for that brand new state of the art shower bathroom"
The plumber seemed like a nice chap and was reassuringly expensive.
I don't have time to detail the catalogue of woe but here are few pictures which should give you a feel for their level of skill and professionalism.
PM me if you want to know who they are to ensure you don't inadvertantly use them.
I have since paid someone else to rip out all of their work and do it properly. _________________ "This is like deja vu all over again."

It was shocking.
If you look at the full length photo you can see several holes filled in with mastic. This is where they first drilled. Unfortunately they had measured the holes with the radiator sitting on the floor which didn't leave any room for the pipes and thermostat.
All the drilling and messing about made a mess of the plaster and paint. I had just spent £1K on plasterwork so wasn't too happy. I had to have it repaired and then the wall had to be repainted.
I had arranged with my joiner to drill holes in the absolutely correct place for the pipes. Now I know what I am doing when it comes to measuring for pipe centres. They told me that the holes were in the wrong place. I insisted they measure again and again they said they had to drill new holes. I then said that I had no choice but to accepts their word as professionals and allow them to drill the holes.
Well you guessed it. They had 2 goes at drilling holes and made a mess of my new flooring which was less than a week old and cost me £900. Surpries surprise it turned out that my holes were in the right place all along!!!
They finally managed to get the radiator on the wall and then I noticed that they had fitted 2 lockshield valves instead of a thermostat which meant that I could not regulate the heat from the radiator as it would be on full blast whenever the heating was on.
Under the floor they had ripped out the perfectly sound copper piping and put in place a leaky arrangement of plastic joints.
Now this radiator is 2 metres high and weights a ton. Out of the 6 brackets they fitted to the wall only one was actually fixed properly such that it could bear a load. The other 5 brackets were basically stuck to the wall with mastic.
They did a similar job to the towel rail they fitted to the bathroom.
We had words regarding the work and they came back to fix the faults. It was clear that they were completely incapable so I sent them away and told them to get their boss to call me regarding the bill. Discussions are still ongoing.
I had to have all of the work done again by someone else who took a fraction of the time and did a perfect job.
I cannot express adequately how crap these guys were. They should be ashamed of themselves, especially as they pitch themselves at the upper part of the market.
I was ripped off, had to pay to fix the wall, have it repainted, fix the floor tiles and then have the radiators fitted again by someone else.
A very expensive lesson.
