Carnage at Hartwood.
Loads of contractors in the grounds at the moment trying to rid the place of Japanese Knot Weed.
They've got a big job on their hands.
Loads of trees cut down and supposedly having to dig down 3 metres to get rid of the roots of the weed.
Real mess at the moment and interfering with my dog walking.

I believe land owners that have knotweed now have a legal obligation to get rid of it

The person I would like the information about is my mother - Margaret Forbes (McQueen). She was married to Thomas Forbes and her father was William Beveridge McQueen. For about 12 Years I was in an orphanage but then was brought up by Grandad & Grandma McQueen. I remember that Grandad played and taught the organ in Holytown and have just a couple of photos of them. What I would really cherish is information about my mother but most of all a photo of her as I have never seen her not even a photo. In family circles it is believed that she was placed in a Hartwood Hospital about 1934 because she suffered from post natal depression and was unable to care for the children The place could have been Hartwood Asylum as she seemingly lived in that area. Could you trace whether she was an inpatient there? Would there be any other contacts that may help as living in Australia it is very difficult to access records from Scotland without having very deep pockets. Any sort of help would be greatly appreciated
i work in an unnamed hospital in lanarkshire in the records dept and in the warehouse there are loads of records in there from hartwood going back as far as 1886 as far as i remember. i will try at some point to have a good look for you and see if i can find anything for you. but remember if i do then its all top secret ye ken

I was up here last year surveying the nearby Right of Way. I'm afraid the whole place has been flattened.

That was a different site you were on Jester, that was Hartwoodhill, about half a mile away from Hartwood at the opposite end of the village.
Hartwoodhill was flattened completely about two years ago.

Hi guys,

I am so late to this party(!), but I am writing a story based on an asylum and to get my facts right I'd need to get some info about a place such as Hartwood, which is quite near to where I live (Shotts).

If anyone can assist with info such as sharing photos/stories, their experiences when visiting, etc. then I'd love to hear from you.

Please PM me as this will be the best way to get in touch.

Steve Deighan.

Cheers. The site I went to is marked on the OS map as Hospl, so I assumed that was it.

Saw this on FB tonight.

We seem to have arsonists around the neighbourhood. Yesterday fire in woods behind Vennachar St, Today another fire in the woods behind Vennachar St, Tonight a major fire at the old Harwood hospital, which is tying up a fleet of Fire Engines. I really hope there is no major incidents in the North Lanarkshire tonight that requires the Fire service to be in attendance.
If anyone has information regarding any of these incidents please contact the Police or myself.
