Had heard the story of Hess a few times, had a wee look on Wikipedia for a picture and found this of the crash site, i'm sure with a bit of time on google maps we'd get the exact spot.

It was my understanding that the spot where the plane hit the ground has now been covered by that newish road from East Kilbride to the M77 where it passes a couple of hundred yards from Floors Farm.

Although the plane hit there, I'd heard that Hess's parachute landed behind the farm.

Hi, My Gran, who passed away some time ago now, claimed that she, her brother and my Papa were out for a drive when Hess's plane crashed to one side of them, they drove into the ditch at the side of the road and the plane bounced over their car.

I remember thinking how funny it was that my Gran was furious with her brother and her future husband leaving her in the car whilst they ran to capture the German.  I can hear her now saying 'well there could have been an explosion!'  I had to prompt her for the rest of the story a couple of times!!!  They grabbed the German in the field and knocked on the farmer's door, where he carried out the arrest.  They had no idea it was Hess.

Their names have never been given because they were scared of repercussions.  She was just a teenager at the time.  I just wanted to add the story to the history books.  I have no idea where the landing spot was, it's intriguing, I'll need to check with the older generation...

I remember this well some Yorkshire man wanted and did erect a small stone cairn on Floors farm which was then owned by Craig Baird  anyway a group from the anti Nazi league  arrived  with sledgehammers  and smashed it by the way they were led by Anwar Aamer who is a quite well know solicitor in Glasgow .
