When I went to Uni in 1960s I passed the docks being infilled. Most of the rubble used was causey setts from the roads which were then all being tarmaced.
A small frigate built for an African state but unpaid for was 'parked' there for several years.


It became HMS Mermaid in 1973.  Was involved in a collision with another RN ship, a minesweeper named HMS Fittleton, in 1976 with 12 of the Fittleton crew losing their lives.  Sold to Malaysia in 1977.
