Ahem, right... moving on from this outsourcing of cooncil personnel to the private sector...

A long, long time ago I read somewhere that the Tolbooth Bar at the Cross was where the hawf and hawf was invented. I’ve never managed to retrace the source, and I have wondered whether it’s just another unverifiable claim like Val Doro’s accreditation as the place where the fish supper was invented. Anybody any clues or sources on this?
