Liz Cameron's portrait has been unvailed in the Picture Gallery on the third floor of the City Chambers.
There are many portraits in the Picture Gallery. Here are the three predecessors to Liz Cameron.
Alex Mosson 1999-2003
Pat Lally 1996-99
Tommy Dingwall 1994-96
During her time as Lord Provost, Liz Cameron has two other portraits erected in the picture gallery. They were paintings which had been in storrage for a number of year.

There are pics of PJ Dollan with Winston Churchill and a young JFK during the war. It is said that he virtually represented Glasgow at international level
His epitaph? They named the baths in East Kilbusbie after him.

Thanks for putting me on to this, WBK, I'd never really taken notice of the guy before:
Quote:
"I kept asking about my brother, but nobody could tell me anything and that was so worrying.
"In Glasgow we met the Lord Provost, Sir Patrick Dolan, and he was a lovely fellow, a fatherly figure, and the council were really lovely, and they took us to the Glasgow Charity Cup, Rangers versus Celtic.
"We had the Royal Box there, the posh box, and there were so many people rapping on the windows, smiling and waving to us all the waydown. It was because wewere the last to come back; we were dead, andhad just come back to life. I still kept asking about Alan and then Sir Patrick Dolan took me to one side and said: 'Your brother hasn't been found. I don't think there's much chance."' Derek struggled with the guilt for nearly 50 years, then at a reunion in 1982 heard from a rescuer that they had found his brother and brought himon to rescue ship HMSHurricane, but that hehad died from exposure. Derek gets very emotional recalling his loss on the programme.
Just as the six boys were preparing to go home, they dined on chicken at the city hall and were presented with a special medallion entitling them to free meals there there in perpetuity, so they need never be hungry again.
Building air-raid shelters on Glasgow Green, [1939]
Lord Provost Patrick Dolan inspects progress in the building of public shelters. These were particularly important in a city of tenements that had a high population density and very little space alongside people's houses.

Dollan & Hess
Quote:
Sir Patrick Dollan is a stern, old-fashioned Socialist and onetime conscientious objector who has presided since 1938 over Glasgow as Lord Provost (mayor) of Britain's most radical city. In a career of laird-baiting he has come to consider himself an expert on such families as that of the young Duke of Hamilton, on whose estate Rudolf Hess landed unexpectedly last month. Sir Pat claimed last week to have the lowdown on the Hess case. The "genuine truth," as he revealed it to a War Weapons Week audience in Fifeshire:
"Hess came here still an unrepentant Nazi, still a loyal supporter of the Führer, still a devoted member of the gang that plotted the war against Poland and other countries.
"He came in the belief that he could remain in Scotland two days, discuss his peace proposals with a certain group, and be given a supply of petrol and maps to enable him to return to Germany and tell them the results of his conversations. I understand that he is quite annoyed at being kept prisoner."
Quote:
Doppelganger, is a mimic or twin. Ancient medieval stories say that these were creatures that could duplicate the exact features of the person they touch. There is a modern theory by Rudolf Hess called, 'The Doppelganger Theory' which basically say that everyone has an exact twin somewhere in the world.

So sensitive are some of the findings, to be published early next year, that the identities of the two authors will not be revealed until the publication date. One is a Scottish-based military historian while the other is a former British intelligence officer living in England.
Their central claim is of a "conspiracy for peace" - a conspiracy that Churchill was aware of and effectively sabotaged. A wide range of characters had roles to play in the affair, albeit some unwittingly. They ranged from the Duke of Kent and the Duke of Hamilton to former Glasgow Lord Provost Patrick Dollan and The Herald's then aviation correspondent, Fred Nancarrow.
The authors also claim it was not the real Hess who died in Spandau, and that the "doppelganger" was, in fact, murdered.
Quote:
The Polish General Sikorsky, who was also killed in a mysterious air crash - off Gibraltar - in 1943 was a party to this plot, the researchers claim. They have also uncovered evidence that the then Glasgow Lord Provost, Sir Patrick Dollan - a friend of Sikorsky - had commissioned Glasgow Herald aviation correspondent Fred Nancarrow to write a revised version of a book he had written in 1941 on 501 Squadron. The new book was to incorporate details of the Hess and Kent affiliation.
Nancarrow, before the book could be published, died in yet another mysterious air accident, in September 1942, when the Sunderland aircraft he was in crashed after apparently running out of fuel off Tiree. The authors have access to a note written by Sir Patrick commenting on Nancarrow's unfinished manuscript. It reads: "The time will come when the full story can be told. Fred Nancarrow has written this at my request - he has done his job well."
