Been out taking pictures and exploring for some past present stuff and its amazing how many roads used daily cross over long forgotten railways with the people using them probably not even knowing they are there. The diffenence in the design from bridge to bridge is quite stark and does not seem to have had a standard.
Anyway as a new wee thread I thought we could find out what bridges go over what streets in the city
Here,s some for starters
Balmore road with Possil station in background
Chapelton street on the possil branch line in Milton
The 3 above are Ashfield street in the milton area again on the possil branch line.
It is strange how we all tend to take things for granted without thinking about what was there before. I pass over a bridge on Clarence Drive most mornings and there is a street below. I often wondered what was there before the houses _________________ I had a dream today
Theres a few in this area.... edmiston drive rises up and over a bridge and theres one on Whitefield Street _________________ Now coming at you with 95% more significance, 1% less salt and virtually fat free!
The most northerly of the two bridges on Crow Road near Jordanhill Station.
It has catenary on it and the track is in good shape, so it's obviously still used, but i've never seen a train on it.
I had a serious phobia about this bridge when I was a nipper, but the other one further along didn't bother me at all.
Strangely the other day I was walking under it with a pal, he said something along the lines of "this bridge gives me the creeps" Weird, he never even knew of my old phobia.
