Yip that`s the Pollok St I remember.
In the second pic the white shopfront is the Clachan Bar ( it was yellow in real life) and above that is my bedroom window
Great memories thanks _________________ I was in a Tunnel on another forum and I came out here. fcuk, who shut the door !

Thanks, Scary. I'd wondered what the name of the pub was, annoyed I hadn't got it in the photo.
Correction to my last post - PRW is still PR at this point, of course.
You just beat me to it, I was gonna correct you on that
Did you do much more in Kingston area as you are a box of surprises streap, lots of pubs and off-sales in Pollok St and surrounding areas, did you get them ? If you did I can name them as I know everyone and every shop in a mile radius _________________ I was in a Tunnel on another forum and I came out here. fcuk, who shut the door !

OMG Streapadair, that top picture is exactly as I remember it, you are a star! Thank you so much. This site is fekn amazing.
Scary… I never knew my dad’s real name was George!… maybe he lived a dual life and went incognito as soon as he donned that dark green uniform and climbed up into the cabin of his Leyland Titan.
Oh no... … I can already see myself on “Trisha” taking the DNA test… i.e. the Drumoyne Number4 Analysis.
Seriously though, your maw is probably way too young to have worked with him, my old man last drove a bus about 1968.

Not a lot more, sorry. I've got just about enough material for a 'West to Govan' collection, but it's a bit feeble.
One thing you could maybe tell me - in 1973/4 there was a pub called Fergie's a few door along from the Grand Ol' Opry. The future Sir Alex, I'm thinking? No doubt about Jim Baxter's (PR Toll) or Kai Johansen's (corner of Govan Rd and Stag St) though.

I don`t have any memory of a pub called Fergie`s, i`m assuming it would have been where the present day Angel bar is situated a few doors down from the Opry. The Angel has had a few names over the years and it`s possible it was called Fergie`s at one point too, but as i was away from the area between 70 and 78 I may have missed the namechange, I knew it as Burns Cottage mostly.
I had a pint or 2 in Baxters and remember Johansens place too but was too young to get a pint in there.

Correct. It's still of a blue persuasion, I see (from StreetView).

Correct, alex ferguson was manager of St Mirren or was it East Stirling around that time.

Hope no-one minds, but following on from previous posts on Pollock Street/Weir Street (and I remember the gardens in Pollock St), I'm interested in pictures of Houston Street. My grandparents ran a wee shop on one side, then on the other side, in the 1960s, and I would love to know if there are any pics? From memory (which is very vague) it was a genny all-sorts (newsagent, tobacconist, sweeties, wood, washing powder, etc.).
Also, why are there so many different 'area' names for that area? I understood Houston Street to be in Plantation (according to my aged uncle), but it appears it also comes under Kingston, Tradeston, and Kinning Park. Any clues??
Your help is eagerly anticipated
