Not been here for a long long time in fact i think i might have put it forward as a good UG day out... _________________ MY FLICKR

An excellent little Scottish island where the sun always shines*
Good to see the Garrison building has been rebuilt last time I was there it was a just a shell after the fire.
Famous for the Worlds smallest house as seen in the Guinness Book of Records. It's the one with the flower baskets outside the window almost directly above the person on the beach.
Went there a couple of times as school trip. Of course missed most of the beauty of the place. Only things I remember are the cycle shop and crocodile rock and the painted face!! Your pics made me really want to go again with old eyes as opposed to seeing it with new eyes! thanks _________________ Slainte Mhor
Used to go scuba diving around there in the late 80s early 90s ..loads of shipwrecks which I still have all the details of..will do a thing about them if I ever get the time ..At the Cumbrae slip where the ferry docks just to the left there is the remains of a Catalina flying boat which was and probably still is a great novice dive. last time I dived it it was looking great ..the engines were removed in the seventies but the rest of the plane was intact..apparently it sank at its moorings sometime during the war and there were loads of them stationed about the area for the Atlantic patrols
Millport is a wonderful place - I live there.
The picture of the noose is at my hotel.
We have been refurbishing the hotel over the last 2 years - just about finished.
The noose was put up as part of the decor for the Country & Western Weekend; so many people have commented on it & taken pictures that I decided to leave it - at least until the building is painted in the Spring.
Millport & the Isle of Cumbrae holds a special place in the hearts of many Glasgow folk - between childhood holidays, days out, trips on the Waverley, evacuations during WW2 Millport has featured in the lives of many. There are a lot of Glasgow people who have holiday homes here and many more who have regular breaks on the Island.
I moved here from the Southside of Glasgow just over three years ago, as much as I miss many aspects of living in Glasgow life on the Island is wonderful, stress is banished by a few minutes taking in the wonderful views.

View from one of the bedrooms in the hotel.
I live at the opposite end of town from the hotel & to get to work I drive - or walk - round the coast road and never tire of the fantastic views over the Firth of Clyde.
Kev - there is an unerwater video of the Catalina wreck on youtube
