Cheers James for posting these. I wonder why the felt the need to put a blockage in for the Yorkhill tunnel, but not the Stobcross Depot tunnel? Unless it was just for general access purposes?

I know some of this will probably be old news, but anyways. I was out cycling about again today and decided to go check out the south portal of the Tamshill tunnel. Got some pictures, although apologies that they don’t show more. It was surprisingly hard to get a good angle due to amount of stuff growing down there:

So unless a crowd of us wanted to go there with shovels (*wink*wink*hint*hint*), its safe to say Tamshill tunnel is a no-goer.

The opening between the north portal of the Chapel Street tunnel and Tamshill south portal has been completely filled in:

All that remains of the Chapel Street north portal is the top:

The Chapel Street south portal, behind the Bingo hall, is bricked over:

I also got some photos of the “Halloween Pen” (see EmmettG’s post earlier on page 10 of this thread):

I’m sure the other end of this was open as I could see a faint light in the distance, but I forgot to bring a torch and the ground was quite wet and muddy. Will return another day to check this out, but it doesn’t look anything special to be honest.

I suspect that's been done in recent years, cos I remember the deep cutting
that was there before.

Have you ever been in the Tamshill tunnel?

Out and about again on the bike today – I seem to be making this a habit on a Saturday now. Least I won’t feel guilty when I chow into the food I’m going to get later from the carry out. Anyways, I got some more tunnel pictures.

First, the other side of the “Halloween Pen”:

…and inside:

Also managed to find the Provan Mill Gassworks north portal. Getting to it is starting to get a little tricky thanks to nature taking over. Pretty safe to assume that fence is pretty secure:

The tunnel also looked to have a few inches of water in it. Does the south portal still exist for this tunnel?

As far as I know the other end is landfilled.

Ah... oh well. Makes you wonder how things will be in another 35 years time for these tunnels.

Just think what kind of public transport system Glasgow would have (train wise) if all these lines were still open!

At the Kelvin Aquaduct, there is one side of the Kelvindale tunnel, so the bridge at the aquaduct have probably something to do with that.

Is that where this is?

That's Glenfarg viaduct and tunnel in the top pic, I have similar pics somewhere.

Cheers
