Cardonald College Mosspark Drive

Cardonald Cat & Dog Home, 125 Kinnell Drive

Our Lady Of Lourdes R.C. Chapel Lourdes Avenue Cardonald

Our Lady Of Lourdes Lourdes Avenue Cardonald

Inscription by local schoolkids

Chapel hall ? Just Off Lourdes Ave

This hall is intriguing me as I have been searching the web for a place called Henderston that ran between Corkerhill Rd and Berryknowes Rd up to Kinnell Ave from Paisley Rd and there was a place called Halfway House and this is in near enough the right location, I need to talk to the Chapel Clergy and find out what they know.
St Josephs Mill Hill Nursing Home Lourdes Ave

Didn`t get a pic of the nursing home as I was getting severe growls from security, but it`s modern and hardly worthwhile taking, I am more interested in the history if anyone can help.
1613 Paisley Road West William Hill Bookmakers formerly Howdens Bar

Close Up of 1613 P.R.W.

Could be a link to Henderston ?

Scary, that hall IIRC  was used by the 8th Glasgow scouts.Damaged by fire around 1980,they were temporarily re-homed with the 30th.I had a couple of them in my patrol when I was a patrol leader.

I had you in my head as more of a BB man, but it still doesn`t resolve the issue of it`s original purpose.

Scary, the name Henderston relates to the 3 farms in the Cardonald area,
West Henderston;Mid Henderston and East Henderston.
The area from Corkerhill Rd. to Nazareth House was once the Maryland estate or High Merryland as it was originally known.
I think the nursing home was once a mission that was established at the turn of the century.

Cheers for the info Doog I knew of West, Mid and East Henderston from a 1912 map and found it strange that there is no reference or even a street name to acknowledge the previous existence of Henderston in the area today as opposed to Maryland e.g. Maryland Gardens.
Marylands House I think is now the South Western Social & Recreation Club and there was a Merryflats in Drumoyne between Shieldhall Road and the S.G.H.

Cat and dog home has been through some changes since my last visit.
Used to go here with the wife as part of what seemed like a ritual and give a little something to pay for a few wee dinners.
Not been to the doggy jail for ages they were in the process of doing some long brick kennels last time we were there.

Cardonald College has been tarted up a bit since i was an apprentice.
Pain in the arse it was to get here too as it was 2 days at langside and 1 day at cardonald.

I took this photo from the window of my mother's flat in Corse Road, Penilee some time in the early 1980s.

That was the bus terminus, with the school hall (?) in the background.

Great spur of the moment social scene Neil but you forgot to mention the wean on their Raleigh Tomahawk.
It was my first ever bike albeit a second hand one that needed fixed up but I rode it every day like a cheap tart until some thieving cnut knocked it from outside my house.

Got the third degree from my folks for not locking it up in the first place.
