Hi james, now I know why and MSP is asking why Glasgow didnt get a discount for what is something that is not too original.
There was a guy on TV who was talking about the emblem, he compared the emblem to different types of tea, Ok there are different types of tea but its still tea.
Why cant I shake off the feeling, ripped off again
Bye for now, norrie
PS might have been a better and cheaper idea to get the schoochildren of Glasgow to do it _________________ Bye for now, Norrie

A second 50m swimming pool is to be built at Tollcross leisure centre in time
for the Commonwealth Games.
The warm-up pool, which is essential for competition swimmers, is part of a
£19million upgrade of the Glasgow complex. The scheme has been given the
go-ahead by planners and it is now expected to get the backing of the full council
when it meets next week.
Work is to start early next year and the leisure centre, most of which will remain
open during construction, will be fully open to the public by 2013.
A council spokesman said: “Tollcross was important to us in securing the
Commonwealth Games because it is a 50m competition standard pool but for
the Games we also need a 50m warm up pool. That will result in by far the
biggest pool in Glasgow with the existing 10 lane pool and a new six lane pool.
“After the Games they will both be open to the public, which will give us a platform
for developing a centre for excellence in swimming. We will also be putting
in temporary seating, increasing the capacity from 876 to 1977.”
Although not necessary for the sporting extravaganza, the work will also provide
new community facilities including replacing Shettleston Hall, which was destroyed
in a fire. The building has been designed to be eco-friendly with a very low
carbon footprint.

H James73 thats good news, there are not many, if any other 50mtrs pools in the area, East Kilbride was 50m at one time but I am sure its smaller now
When I swam a few lengths at 50 m I was jiggered
Thats good that the Shettleston Halls will be rebuilt, will they use the facade?

There is no evidence that staging the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will have
a positive long-term effect on public health, it has been claimed.
Organisers of the 2014 Glasgow games hope the event will inspire local people
to adopt a healthier lifestyle. But a study funded by the Medical Research Council
has found nothing to confirm expectations about the benefits of previous large
sporting events.
The research is published in the latest edition of the British Medical Journal.
The study was carried out by researchers at the Glasgow-based Social and Public
Health Sciences Unit. They set out to assess the effects of major sporting events
on the health of the host city's population.
Despite reviewing 54 previous studies, their report concluded that the available
evidence was "not sufficient to confirm or refute expectations" about the public
health impact of large sporting events. It said: "Future events such as the 2012
Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, or the 2014 Commonwealth Games,
cannot be expected to automatically provide benefits. Until decision makers
include robust, long-term evaluations as part of their design and implementation
of events, it is unclear how the costs of major multi-sport events can be justified
in terms of benefits to the host population."
Dr Gerry Spence, a GP in Glasgow's east end where the 2014 games will take
place, said it was "a no brainer" that the event would not translate into more
sporting activity. "I think they're going to be portraying sport as an elite activity,"
he said. "We're going to see people at the very top of their game who are a
completely different shape, and probably colour, from the rest of us. Although
it will look absolutely marvellous on our high definition TVs, on the ground I don't
think we're going to be seeing much of an improvement in the sporting activities
of the people of Glasgow."
Glasgow City Council said that it was aware a positive legacy from the games
would not occur automatically but was committed to trying to ensure this happened
while measuring its success.

I was talking to a lady today and she said her husband is a Civil Engineer, he was after the post in charge of the velodrome, not sure whether he was offered it but he said the wages were poor.
I heard from her that these games were going to bring work to Glasgow, well seemingly 90% of the workforce is foreign and the rest English.
I have no way of proving or disproving that statement but that happned at the building of Wembley and is happening at Londons Olympics, according to press reports.

Did she happen to mention what company he was applying for the job with?

Interesting. Might I ask where this '100% of the workforce are not scottish' comes from? Or is this just what she said?
